Mush

My brain feels like a melted-rehardened-baked-broiled-deepfried piece of mush thanks to Stephen Kochan and Aaron Hillegass’ objective-c and Cocoa programming bootcamp at Big Nerd Ranch. I’m sitting at the chili’s at the atlanta airport terminal A, and I’m trying to imagine what it will be like to wake up in my own bed and not get a big drink from the firehose of obj-c/cocoa. The past week feels like 3 weeks to me. Every day was so jam packed with useful information that it’s going to take a few days of doing nothing but going through the books and example code just to come up with the right questions to ask the class alumni email list. I would absolutely recommend this class from Big Nerd Ranch. Both instructors are great, the material is useful, the accomodations are good, my classmates were insightful and interesting, and I think you’ll walk away a smarter person.
I by no means would call myself an expert cocoa programmer at this point. I have a good jump start, but a long road ahead. This instruction will help me get a better idea of what I can do, and has helped me understand the syntax and methods of programming in objective c and cocoa…. But omg, so… Much… Information….
As with the PHP Bootcamp at big nerd ranch, I would absolutle steer you to them. I feel like it’s extremely helpful to get guided demos from great instructors, and then have a full instructional book to take home to review. Big Nerd Ranch delived the goods again.
.. Just be ready for that firehose. :)

    Hi Steve

I couldn’t agree more!!! I was lucky enough to meet steve at the big nerd ranch this week and feel the same way. the only differnce is that i am in terminal D right next to the only power outlet i could find. great experinece. now i know why they call it bootcamp. the only suggestion i would give future big ner ranchers is: browse all the cocoa code you can, look at wikis and other stuff before going, so that by the time you get there you are already familiar with the subject. it is not required, but the more you know, the more you’ll take atvantage of the class. cocoa is huge. the amount of information is amazing. and Aaron make an excelent job in walking you through the mayor points. by going to the class you save at least 6 months or even a year worth of studying by yourself. definitly do it if you can

    see ya later steve

    Hi Steve!

I linked to your blog from my anemic little blog. It was great meeting you and Terry and everyone else in class this past week. My bit of advice to those looking to take a BNR class: as advised by Aaron in the intro of his book — get plenty of sleep! You’ll retain more information, and be able to attempt a few of those “challenges”.

Oh, and if you’re presented with a full-on buffet for three meals a day every day, don’t feel the need to “get your money’s worth”! :)

I am interested in the Big Nerd Ranch… my wife actually approved the price tag for the cocoa bootcamp! If all goes well (I expect it should, I came from a NeXTSTEP junkie factory). It’s good to see the good words about the bootcamp.
