catastrophe
well, The maxtor drive that was in the LaCie case I bought died, which had the server on it. Thankfully, I had a 2 month old backup on my other server. Still, what a drag. Fuck maxtor and LaCie. Make better products, folks.
So, for the price of a new ipod
, I now have two 250 gig hitachi SATA drives RAID’ed together, and an external case for the SATA drive that was in the server to begin with. Sigh… ok, so what did I do over the last two months?
Anyway, now I have more hard drive space, mirror raided together… that should give me a big boost of uptime. Now if a drive fails, I know I’m not completely dead in the water… when the Maxtor drive arrives, I’ll figure out how to get SuperDuper on a regular timed backup schedule.
sigh.. gotta install gallery2 again, migrate all 10k photos over from phpix again… gotta install the furbaby site again. Gotta get my processing stuff up.. again…

hi,
my Lacie triple interfaces 200go died exactly a week ago… in fact as you this is the maxtor HDD how died, I’m now using the LaCie case/interface with an old westernDigital I had.
In my case I’m still able (under Window XP) to see the drive in the HardwareManager, but I can not see it in Window Explorer… I tried to access/format/fdisk the disk undero DOS, Lunix, and many Windows PC, but without any success.
The things I did before the drive “died”, is that I copied a 9Go file on to the drive, and I realized after that the drive was formatted in FAT32 (which support only file under 4Go)… so …I don’t think the drive is physical dead, but I can not access it …. sh**t

That’s almost exactly the same drive I had! I have the 250G triple interface! er.. _had_… I hope they don’t ship me the same kind of piece of shit maxtor drive that died.

btw, the link to you processing experiment “3d pixel height from realtime video” is broken (i suppose due to the “catastrophe”), are you going to republish it ?
