Ditching wordpress for serendipity

Ditching wordpress for serendipity: ”

I have been wary of wordpress for a long while. Configuration has been a real headache (no mysqli support out of the box, for instance), and the spam karma plugin was written without proper use of the database abstraction, so I ended up with a partially corrupt database and no properly working spam filters.

After several failed attempts at stopping spam, I decided to switch to serendipity. It has been a dream so far. Installing and configuring in 1 step, I imported all the blog entries from wordpress. There was some struggle to get the formatting just right, but now that I’ve got things going, it worked out fine.

I did hand-enter the comments, and manually modified the IP and date in the database to match up with wordpress. I’m also disappointed in the lack of configurability for RSS feeds and archives, as this means all of my old permalinks are broken.  Otherwise, serendipity is an unqualified success.  With the spam controls in place, I might even be able to rest a bit without any @*&%*ing advertisements for casinos in my posting about music.

Oh boy, others out there who have reservations as I do…
