yawn, get a standalone dvd player

Apple restricting DVD region-changes — voluntarily! — UPDATED
Apple’s DVD players are subject to restrictive rules laid out by greedy Hollywood studios that don’t really care if they piss off Apple’s customers, since that’s Apple’s lookout. However, I’ve just discovered, to my amazement, that Apple imposes its very own restrictions on its DVD players over and above those imposed by the studios: that’s right, Apple voluntarily treats its customers worse than the studios say it has to.

… blah blah blah blah…

…Worse, though: Apple has a policy about region-changing that is more restrictive than it has to be: they’re playing for the other side. This really stinks and makes me wonder why I should keep on buying Apple hardware.

Wall Street? It appears you haven’t bought any new apple hardware in about 6 years. That can’t be right.

let’s see…reading boing boing…

  1. “Apple” in the title - check
  2. “restrict”, or “cripple” in the title - check
  3. superlong rant about woe is me because world’s best consumer electronics aren’t set up for nation-hopping - check
  4. post updated pointing out solutions to the “problem” thereby negating rant, followed by “that’s not the point!” kind of commentary - check
  5. signed by Cory Doctorow - check

Again, where do I filter your Apple posts out of boing boing, Cory? the copyfight for civil rights documentaries is brilliant, but.. your apple rants are so misdirected.

There’s an unfulfilled niche, deeje… author and subject filtering per-feed.

select * from boingboing where 1 and !(author == corydocotorow AND content LIKE “%apple%”);
